Thrifty Thursday - An Inspired Refashion

One of my favorite things to do is to buy dresses at thrift stores that are a great color or print, but are just too big or the style is outdated.  Then I re-make them, or "refashion" them into something that fits and is cute!

Here's one of my latest.

I found this one shouldered beauty at Goodwill.  Several sizes too big for me, but I loved the color!  And I had this inspiration...

I mean, who doesn't love Emily Gemma??? Photo from her blog, The Sweetest Thing

So, I got to work.  Since this was one shouldered to begin with, I had to cut a second armhole.  It's not pretty - I didn't even finish it out, but you can't see it when I wear it!  I also took in several inches on each side, cut off a good bit, and hemmed it.

Here's what I ended up with.

Before and After

I am not an accomplished seamstress.  I wouldn't even say I'm good.  Maybe decent.  If you look closely, you'll see my work isn't the greatest.  That's one reason I love to refashion - it takes less time and skill.  The garment is already constructed and I just make some adjustments.  I have the best time doing it!  And even if I totally mess up something, I'm not out a lot of money (the cost of fabric is ridiculous!) since I just thrifted it!
